I need tips on growing out

HEy everyone... I'm trying to grow out my hair yet again... The last time I went from this new years until like March without a cut, then I frustrated when it because to puff out on me... My friend cut his hair off a few months ago, too, and we agreed to try to grow our hair out together (so we're not the only ones getting strange looks)... Any tips on what I should do to avoid the afro look while it's growing out? He suggested shaving the sides until the top is fairly long, but I'm not sure if that'll take longer... Are there any products out there, like a certain vitamin, or a type of shampoo or conditioner that I can use to make it grow quicker?

Please, please, PLEASE Mr Webmaster, can you add an item to the FAQ that deals with questions such as "can you make your hair grow faster?" !! No offence to you Jeff, as I recognise not everyone knows this, but there is NOTHING you can do to make hair grow faster, and this question seems to constantly come up, and when you're paying for internet time it gets really frustrating re-reading the same thing over and over. Sorry if I have unintentionally caused any offence, but I think it's time this was said!

This was suggested about two years ago and one guy said he was going to do it but never got around to it so I did - I took discussions that recur on the board and wove them into a general FAQ On Being a Longhair. It is also updated from time to time as new discussions bring more material to light.
There is a link to it in the pull-down menus for this board, and there are links there also to other resources that give information about having long hair. The general rule about joining into Internet discussions such as this is to monitor for awhile, and to look around the site for whatever FAQs are available, before posting. Not everyone knows they should do this, and not everyone who knows they should will absorb every tidbit from the FAQs when they read them anyway. So posts asking things in the FAQs will show up from time to time - it's the nature of the beast. :-)

Some people claim to have success increasing the monthly growth. Some people have success, others do not.
I began taking Viviscal and GNC Hair vitamins. I am getting about an inch per month growth now. Some people claim up to 1.5 inches.
Yes, the most important factor is genetics. But some important nutritional factors can help also.

by the way i think that long hair is really cute on guys. ie. nuno gomes of portugal, he da man !! ;)
.....anyway, i have been using formula 37 on my hair, and it is growing like a weed. admittadly, it used to grow quite quickly (the genetics u talk about) and used to average about 1/2 to 3/4 inch growth per month, now its 1 1/2 to 2 on good months, my hair which was formerly just past my shoulders is now rapidly heading for my waist line. it has also made it stronger, shiny and thicker feeling.
my skin has also found good form since i took the formula, and my nails are growing real quick too..........okay, so u guys probably aren't too interested in the state of ur french manicures, but it's a nice side effect for me !!!

Hey, if you're thinking of cutting your sides..my advice would be to Only cut or trim the sides..Don't Shave them short or else the hair on the top of your Head will only look more Puffy!!!! You didn't mention whether your hair was straight/wavy or curly but, try to let the top grow over the sides and blend in....Good luck!!

Ever heard of a relaxer??They have them for blak and white hair...Get a trim every 6 wks and it will grow much faster ..Seek a professionals help.Some people belive its not needed,but thts why so many rediculous
heads are out there now!!!!Use professional products, it is a must,for healthy hair....
