texturizing balm

hey :)
I've heard that texturizing balm works well for people with curly hair, but I'm not quite sure what it is. I was looking for some the other day, but all I found were texturizing "sprays" and "gels" and I heard that gels aren't good for people with fine/thin hair (makes it look greasy), which is what I think I have. Is there a difference? Anyone have any good brands to recommend, hopefully ones I can find at my local Rite-Aid...
thanks

It's difficult to find a texturizing liquid which is not greasy.
Avoid anything in a tube. Read the ingredients. It should have
something with protein high on the list and nothing with propylene
glycol (antifreeze). Redken CAT Treatment is good. FAT CAT has
a little grease in it but oodles of protein. Look for the word
Treatment. They'll tell you to rinse it out but don't. Just leave
it in and carefully blow-dry your hair while stretching it.
I have been using protein treatments in some form for 30 years and
I think it protects the hair from the abuse of the blow dryer.
