I'm 22 and have very thick hair. I've been growing my hair for seven months. After showering, I blot my hair to dry it a bit, but everytime I brush , I seem to lose up to 20 hairs after showering. My girlfriend tells me she loses about eight. Even during the day when I gently brush my hair I shed up to 10+ hairs in one sitting. I treat my hair gently when I shampoo, and I don't rub it, I blot it after I'm done showering. And I know I'm not getting bald anytime soon. I know I'm supposed to lose up to 100 hairs per day but I just can't keep track, and that worries me. The only conclusion I can make is that since I have more than average hair, I should also shed more than the average person. I'll be glad to heard others' opinions. Thank you.

It's hard to find good information about hair. Here what I've found out in trying to separate the fact from the fiction.
When one "looses ones hair" (as in male pattern baldness), it is not that hair falls out so much as the hair does not grow back in. Actually the growth cycle becomes so short that only "fuzz" grows. With that in mind, counting how many hairs that fall out is no indication of male pattern baldness at all.
Now there are times when accelerated hair fallout is seen such as during some treatments for cancer. Fortunately, hair usually grows back after those treatments stop.
I am NOT an authority. I feel that too much time is spent worrying based on misinformation and that is why I urge you to do further research so you can calm your worries and enjoy your hair.

I also have thick hair, and as soon as I started growing it out (about ten years ago) I've noticed piles and piles of hair coming out when I washed it ever since. I'm ALSO not noticing any signs of going bald, so I'd say don't worry about it at all.
