decisions...decisions...

I have been growing my hair for over three years now but have cut the hair in the back just above the shirt collar...the hair on top or forelock is about 15 inches long or so...my job precludes a rather conservative appearance...for the past four months or so I have quit cutting the hair on top and it hangs below the shirt collar so I have tried to push it forward somewhat with a little gel which give me a bit of a pompadour...I really don't like the look but don't want to cut the hair on top any more as I enjoy the length. So, I would like to just let the back hair grow so I may have a ponytail but am a little worried about my supervisor...any ideas?

Hey Justin...sounds like you want have your cake and eat it too...I think you have to decide if a ponytail will fit in with your job description...do you wear your hair all slicked back or do the sides hang down like a "bob"?

At work I wear my hair combed straight back with some gel to keep it there...then off work I sometimes part in middle and let it fall where it may. I still haven't decided on what to do about the new growth...I'll let you know.

Justin--
Just keep it neat, and don't worry about your supervisor. However, perhaps you accidentally used the word "preclude" opposite its meaning, which means "rules out" not "requires."

Thanks James...seems I did include preclude...should I have said forclude which may have included the same preclusion...now I am confused...

Hey if you keep it neat and dont look like a Kiss roadie then dont worry about yer boss. The question is actually a more important one than style. It says something about the match between you and your job. The dot.com economy is full of successful ponytails. If theres a problem with that at your place of work(assuming youre not in the military) then your supervisor is a dinosaur in the age of mammals. Do you really want to work there?

Hi Justin
To help you on your decision let me tell you my own experience.
Last year when my boss realised that I was letting my hairs grow he was putting a lot of pressure in order to cut them "clean" but I resist politely and concentrate in making the best job I could.
The time has passed and gradually he reduce his comments on me.
Yesterday I saw him and came into his office to salute him (we aren't working in the same town)and I was proudly having my now 14" neat ponytail and he didn't say a single word about it.
Time is a good factor to make people get use to our new look.
If you can, hold on, make a good job and hold your finger crossed.
Good luck
Jean
