The wet look

What product will give a ponytail the wet look, but will also hold all those little hairs in place for long periods of time. I am starting a new job where the ponytail is required and i've never really worn one that much,I worry about the way it looks. I need something with all day hold if possible.
Thanks!

As a men's (only) stylist with 15% of my clientele "long-haired" I can recommend American Crew's Pomade.

That's what my stylist uses on me. Smells nice, too. At home, I use Sebastian Laminates gel. It ain't cheap, but a little bit goes a long way. It doesn't exactly give your hair that wet or greasy look, but it holds like glue and imparts an impressive shine. The stuff used to be available only at salons or beauty supply places, but recently I've started seeing it in some upscale supermarkets as well.
. . . JP in san diego.

There is a wide choice of products that will work. One of the cheapest is probably Dep #8 gel. It holds like concrete, looks wet and washes out easily. If you want to hold the "little hairs," without a "wet look" try a shot of hairspray.
If you put a net over your head, spray thru the net, and then remove the net when the spray is about 1/2 dry, you get a dry look that is very neat and controlled.
BRGallagher, perhaps thare is a special name for the spray-thru-the-net technique? I've used it since I learned it from a stylist who used it on me. Is there a special trick to keep the net from sticking?

There is no special trick I know, CD, to keep the net from sticking except to remove it before the spray is 100% dry...not long after application.

While I know it is not popular with most longhairs, I like the wet look with a ponytail. I use a variety of creams and gels to slick back my own ponytail. They all seem to work, though I have very straight hair.

I use the so called "wet look" when styling my hair. I keep my sideburns trimed so every once in a while I go into the salon. My hairdresser always puts my hair up for me after a visit and does a good job. First she wets it with water and combs it back. Then she puts a lot of gel in her hand and works it into my hair, pushing the hair back. Then, she gets behind me and combs it back again. She runs her hand over the top and sides of my head, pulling the hair back, and then grabs to hair from the back of my neck and pulls it all in to what will be the ponytail. She then holds it into place with and elastic hairband. And she then pulls on the ponytail and pushes to band towards my head as tight as she can make it. She then takes a little more gel and grabs my ponytail and pulls it making sure that it is also slick and in a good position. She always use Aussie brand gel, I use it at home too.
