HAIR QUESTIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by ROB on December 06, 2000 at 23:50:04:
HI EVERYONE
I had my hair cut last in Mid august this year, I had it graded all over to 6mm, I have decided now to grow it long and i have calculated the growth of my hair will take until may 2002 to grow it to 13 inch's to tie all my hair into a ponytail. I have allowed for at least 2 inch's to took into the tie, from the hair at the front.
My question Are
1 Is my growth rate of about 13 inch's in 21 months slow or fast
2 And also I would like to know once your hair from your fore head has reached the tie at the nape of your neck, 2 inch's.
After it grows a bit longer, after this do you get the hair at the back cut a bit so it is nearer in over hang length as your front hair when in a pony tail, or not. As I am not sure because I have never had my hair that length before.
Thank to who ever answers this.
THANKS ROB

: HI EVERYONE
: I had my hair cut last in Mid august this year, I had it graded all over to 6mm, I have decided now to grow it long and i have calculated the growth of my hair will take until may 2002 to grow it to 13 inch's to tie all my hair into a ponytail. THATS SCARY! HAVING TO WAIT THAT LONG! I have allowed for at least 2 inch's to took into the tie, from the hair at the front.
I WOULDN'T REALLY COUNT ON IT EVER GETTING THAT LONG, SO IF YOUR WAITING FOR YOUR HAIR TO GROW THAT LONG SO YOU CAN DO A ROCK VIDEO OR SOMETHING LIKE THAT IT MAY NEVER HAPPEN. HOW OLD ARE YOU ROB? WHEN YOU GET TO A CERTAIN AGE EACH HAIRS LIFE CYCLE STARTS TO BECOME SHORTER SO EXPECT THAT IT MAY GROW 8 INCHES AND YOU WILL HAVE TO HAVE BANGS IF YOUR OLDER, UNLESS MAYBE YOU USE ROGAINE OR SOMETHING TO EXTEND THE LIFE CYCLES.
: My question Are
: 1 Is my growth rate of about 13 inch's in 21 months slow or fast
I BELIEVE IT IS FAST, IT SHOULD TAKE 26 MONTHS TO GROW THAT LONG. IF YOUR HAIR DOES GROW THAT FAST YOUR PRETTY LUCKY I GUESS, ALSO YOU CAN MAKE IT GROW EVEN FASTER WITH A PRODUCT CALLED "HAIR SKIN & NAILS" WHICH YOU CAN BUY AT GNC AND I KNOW THERE ARE CERTIAN THINGS YOU CAN HAVE IN YOUR DIET FOR FASTER GROWTH, LIKE FISH.
: 2 And also I would like to know once your hair from your fore head has reached the tie at the nape of your neck, 2 inch's.
: After it grows a bit longer, after this do you get the hair at the back cut a bit so it is nearer in over hang length as your front hair when in a pony tail, or not. As I am not sure because I have never had my hair that length before.
IF YOUR HAIR DOES GET THAT LONG BE SURE TO GET THE LARGEST MOST GENTLE HAIR TIE THERE IS, IF YOU DON'T YOU MAY HAVE SERIOUS PROBLEMS WITH HAIR BEING PULLED IN SOME PLACES.
: Thank to who ever answers this.
: THANKS ROB

Can you tell me if there is any difference between racial groups and the potential length of hair growth please.
I would be particularly interested to know the possible difference between europeans and asians.
I would also like to know what length a european could reasonably expect their hair to grow.

Hello,
I don't post often but felt I had to step in here, in the light of Merle Unruh's unnecessarily pessimistic post. Merle, why are you so down on this person?
6mm (ca. 1/4 inch) is excessively short, and I don't know how you can go hot and cold like that (perhaps Merle doesn't feel that you should have the right to have long hair after you've buzzed it), but we long hair lovers will support your decision to let it grow.
The basic rule is hair grows 6" (15+ cm.)/year. So typically in 21 months, your hair should grow 10.5". [If your hair will actually grow 13" in 21 months, you are very fortunate.] Following the basic rule, you have 12.75" to go. This should take 25.5 months. This will put you in approximately January of 2003. If your hair grows faster, then some time late in 2002 is still attainable.
Now, regarding your age: your age in and of itself really has nothing to do with whether or not your bangs will grow. It is all based on what your genes are predisposed for. I will admit that at my age of 38, the growth rate in front has slowed down a bit, but the front hairs have been long enough to hold in a ponytail for years.
As for your question regarding trimming the back: It depends on what kind of a look you want for the back of your hair. My personal opinion is that if your hair is very straight, it will ultimately look best if you have it all trimmed to the same hanging length. Of course, this means that you lose a lot of appearance of length when you ultimately trim the back. If you do it slowly it will not feel as drastic. For example, if you let your hair grow out for 6 months, you could trim a couple inches off the back and keep repeating this until the front and side hair catches up. Your hair will always appear to be the same approximate length in back. If your hair is wavy or curly, it probably will not matter if you do any trimming in back at all, unless the shorter hairs pop out every which way. But once in a ponytail, this is not usually the case. My hair is wavy, and I don't think anyone can tell if all of my front hairs don't exactly reach the same length as the back. I will probably trim at some point, just for a neater look, but that's just a preference. At this point I have not had any kind of trim at all for over 2 1/2 years. My hair is mid-back, and approximately all one hanging length.
Good luck to you, Rob, and we all hope you persevere in your decision. If you are tempted to give up, remember the two-week rule!
Gabriel

I'm sorry, I wasn't trying to discourage anyone or sound down. I was just trying to tell rob up front that there are some people who simply can not grow hair as long as he is hoping for and I didn't want Rob to be disapointed if his hair only got to about 8 inches. I was also trying to say that it is more realistic to get hair that long (and keep it) if you use some kind of booster.
