bangs...hair....arrrgh!!

Hello. I have attempted a few times to grow my hair out, but I always seem to run into a reason to cut it as it gets halfway through the bad stage (this last time was because of a job interview...I needed the job). Now that I have this job and am settled in, I'm thinking of growing my hair again (there are other guys at the office with long hair). I've always wanted long hair, but never got past the bad stage. My hair is coarse, and fairly thick. When my bangs start to get to about 2 or 3 inches, they curl up on me, but the rest of my hair is just kind of wavy after that length. What's up, and is there anything I can do about it? I can scan a photo if you feel you might want to look at it. Thanks...

Yes, how about a photo...

Here's the photo. Those curls get really irritating because I can never seem to get rid of them. This is them on an average day. Just the bangs, for some reason.
Please don't use this in a gallery, due to the fact my hair is not long yet!!! Thank you.

Looks to me like you should just let your hair go wavy and curly--could look really awesome! Sometimes we try to tame it too much, and while neatness is important, maybe there is a way to ease up on it and go with the curl! If we all had straight, manageable hair, it would get pretty boring--given the unlikely possibility that long hair could ever be boring!

Thanks for the information. I appreciate it. I think I'll probably do that.

just let it go! by the time you get a medium-sized ponytail (2+ years) going it will look cool because your hair will have a lot of body and texture.

Looks a hell of a lot better than mine. Just let it be and dont try to overstyle the bangs. Some girls will think its "cute" so there's a plus. A lot of people have hair like that where the front is wavier, curlier or frizzier and the rest is pretty straight, like me, except my hair gets frizzy. Have you considered braids or even dreds?
I used to have an undercut and I would braid my bangs.

Hmmm....So far I haven't thought much of braiding my hair...That's a good idea. Yeah, I'll give that a shot. As for dreds, I don't really like the way those look too much, but it is another suggestion for me to look into.

How long is the top, and how long is the back/sides?

Actually, not as long as it is in that photo I posted. I'm just in the starting process again (as I said, I had to cut it for the job interview...barber screwed up...the back was short and growing out, the sides were kinda shaggy, and the top was starting to get long. Everything was different lengths.
As for now, the top's an inch and a half (approx), and the sides and back are about 3/4 of an inch. I'm not planning on getting it cut anytime soon though.

Sorry...It appears too dark on the board. Just imagine the curl continues around to about 280 degrees.

Allan, begin by equating hair LENGTH with WEIGHT--the longer your hair becomes, the more weight pulls from the root and, generally speaking, curls are eventually pulled into awesome wave patterns. When this actually happens depends upon the thickness of one's hair and the tightness of the curl. But, judging from your photo, your hair seems to be headed (no pun intended) in that direction. Another (hopefully) helpful hint: do not comb your hair straight down from the part (natural or otherwise) before combing it back from your face. Comb your hair back (while it is wet) and let the part form by itself--this will hasten the effect of having the curls go into the intended wave pattern. Grow for it...don't be discouraged. An awesome wave pattern will develop with time.
