Advice on straight hair??

I'm been growing my hair for about 6 months now. It's not nearly where I want it to be but I'm willing to take the time to get there. However I have one problem. I have very straight, thin hair. I'm talking no wave or thivkness at all. When my hair gets to shoulder length is there any way to put a wave in it to add some thickness?? I don't want to be like some straight-haired long-haired guys I see who tuck their hair behind their ears..I think that looks awful. I want to let it go loose without doing that but I'm afraid I will never be able too. Can this look be attained by a hair stylist? Even to very straight thin hair?? Any suggestions would be helpful.

You might consult with a stylist and ask whether a body perm would help. Another possiblity would be to try setting in small curlers once or twice a week-- a set can last to a degree for a couple of showers. This idea may not be too appealing, but women have been doing it for a long time.

My hair is very fine and straight, plus I have I've had a rather high forehead all my life. I haven't tried rollers like someone else suggested, but I'd suggest you stay away from anything with harsh chemicals. IMHO, the "thin" look doesn't really look bad unless it's unkempt or poorly cared for. Just treat it well and keep it healthy and it'll look fine. Find the right conditioner for you, and maybe a leave-in treament to strengthen it, and you'll have plenty of sheen and it will "flow" well. Incidentaly, my younger brother, who has very thick, short, coarse hair, is actually jealous of how well mine behaves sometimes.
Just out of curiosity, do you also have a high forehead? The reason I ask I inherited mine from my father and appear to have inherited his receding hairline along with it (bro got mom's hair in case you're curious.) Other than avoiding tight ponytails, changing my part periodically, etc. is there anything non-medical I can do to slow the recession down?

Mind if I jump midstream into this thread? I have thin/fine/straight hair as well, had it all my life(all 25 years), as well as a high forehead.(I inherited my hair texture from my mom)*shrug*
As for slowing down recession you may want to try browsing through alt.baldspot or regrowth.com. Personally I've just started taking finasteride, I'm hoping it will work but it is still too early to tell.
Let us know if you find somethingnon-medical
Cheers
Jeffrey

Hey finasteride is the active drug in the hairloss prevention pill 'propecia'.
