DIEEE

I just read some interesting discussions quite a bit down below about how some people worry girls don't like long hair guys. personally I don't think it would make you less attractive to girls, but whether it does or not, having long hair can make you EXTREMELY INTIMIDATING TO APPROACH.
just to give you guys a mental image, this is how intimidating I can look. I'm tall, slim, I have an oval face, clean shaven, straight black hair to my shoulders. I'd be wearing a trench coat (which I usually do), sometimes also wearing shades, with one of my hands inside the coat pocket and the other hand flipping a coin between the nuckles...
my housemate told me if he saw me on the street and didn't know me he'd seriously consider running away from me or at least staying away as far as possible cuz I look very dangerous.
now of course that's an extreme case but what I'm trying to say is just that by keeping your hair long the message people get from your appearance about your personality and character is generally that you are the less approachble kind, and maybe that's why some people experience negative or lack of attention from the female group while having long hair.
my two cents

It could be that shades that frightens girls. My hair isn't that long (I've been growing it for about 4 months) and I also love to wear shades... most girls steer clear of me when I do. The trenchcoat doesn't help either, I've found. It's too bad girls have to be so intimidated by the clothes we like to wear.

Dohh, you got it wrong folks. As far as I know, girls LOVE "dangerous" and mysterious looking men. And shades just makes us look more mysterious. AND the long hair ads to the powerfull manliness. Maybe you havnt come across the right girls yet. Or you are "afraid" of the more "powerful" girls.
Thats my theory.
Women Don't Like Short Hair?

My boss, who's in his early 30s, cut his ponytail-length hair earlier this year because, among other things, it was getting him more attention than he wanted from women, what with being happily married and all. Even so, when his wife saw his short hair for the first time, she cried. Now, this is a guy with sandy hair and a babyface--nobody would mistake him for Van Damme in a dark alley--but it certainly runs counter to some of the posts I've seen here about women and long hair. I'd suggest to you that there are certain guys who look great with any haircut and others who tend to look best with the extremes--very long or very short.

as I've mentioned before, I'm not talking about whether girls like "dangerious and mysterious looking men". I'm talking about just the general impression you give to people is usually that you're the less approachble kind of character. if you had to choose between going up and start talking to someone who looks like he'll just stand up and kill you right there or go up and talk to someone who seems rather nice and easy going what choice do you think you'd make.
again, extreme case scenario but just to get the idea across

that depends on who the person is. for every person that is intimidated by long hair, there's another who is intrigued by it... and perhaps another who simply dislikes it. someone who thinks your long hair makes youscary looking may just be easily intimidated.

You make an interesting point, there are always going to people that are easily intimidated by extremes. I don't know how old you are, but I think that may make a difference as well. I'm 39, and honestly, I don't think I would be intimidated by ou if you were in your 20s, I might be if you were in your 40s. I love long hair on men and sunglasses add mystery. Whether a women goes for you has to do with personality not hair, my husband was bald when I married him and I love him still. Good luck!

I'm 19 and I have sort of a babyface, you'd think I wouldn't look too intimidating but here's a story more or less off topic to your entertainment.
I was walking with my housemate to campus at night, it was really cold I was wearing a trench coat with one of my hands inside the coat and we were talking about how ppl on the street would see me and start
running away. and then we came up with this idea that we gonna pull on the next pedestrian we see. here's what we did. there was a girl walking towards us from the other end of the street by herself. so I was walking a little bit behind and beside my housemate, with my hand inside the trench coat, and I told him to put his hands up behind the back of his head and keep walking. we managed to keep a straight face as we passed by the girl, I glanced at her when we walked by she was like trying not to look at us and pretending she didn't see
anything, and after we passed by her my housemate looked back and saw her going into a phone booth...
