Question for Victor

Victor,
How long have you had long hair? Have you ever
had thoughts of cutting it but, then changed your
mind. I recently almost cut mine short, I didn't but each
day the thought of it haunts me. I can't seem to
function without worrying about a decision that I didn't make!
Thanks

I guess I've always had longer than average hair, but I've only had longer than shoulder length hair since I got married. The last time I cut my hair was for a job interview. During the interview, I found out my future boss was married to a man with yard-long hair. What a waste! That's when I decided never again to cut my hair unless I wanted to.
A few years later, I had to go to court for a divorce involving a child custody dispute. I decided not to be a hypocrite, and I kept my hair long (1993-1995). I wound up winning my case. I'm coming more and more to the conclusion that the importance of hair length is emphasized much more than any difference it actually makes. In other words, people are more tolerant of individual preferences than is generally believed. Of course there are exceptions. But these should be viewed as the bad apple in the bunch.

Victor,
Thanks for the response! Your hair grows really fast! I am glad that I didn't cut my hair short also. The problem that I have is I dwell on the fact that I almost did. This seems to get in the way of my every day life. I need to find a way to deal with this issue and get on with my life. I also want to say that I really like this site!
Sincerely,
Darrin

The way a lot of us deal with that is to practice the "two week rule":
If you are thinking of cutting long hair, mark the date on your calendar. If you do not waver in your feeling for two weeks running, not for an instant, then cut. If you have second thoughts, mark that on your calendar and the two weeks start to run anew from that point.
Cutting long hair will have a longlasting effect on your appearance. No matter what the pressures or feelings of the moment, longlasting decisions should not be made quickly. Two weeks is the time that the gang on here report is needed to cycle through all the emotions and issues involved.
Now you have your safeguard in place. So go enjoy your hair!
