HELP- Did Fabio start out like this??!!

Okay, okay - by reading the posts, I am now positive I am in the beginning stage of the oh-so-dreaded Ragmop stage - my low and tight is grown out, and now I could get a bit spot on That 70's Show( hold me by my feet and I'll clean your kitchen floor with my head!)
R-A-G-G-M-O-P-P, as Cecil the Seasick Sea Serpent would say.............
I wake up in the morning, and my hair looks like it's ready to go on stage with Bozo the Clown - whoooooo nellyyyyyyyy!
Leave-in conditioner, followed by industrial strength gel, followed by industrial strengh #200 hairspray STILL does no good - puffyness is back within a few hours -Ugh!(talk about a throwback from the 1970's.........)
I am now at the point where I could VERY easily take a trip to Joe the Butcher I mean Barber, and request my usual low and tight.... Come on people, I'm counting on you to get me through this!
Since football season is over (you call the XFL football??)I think it's time to trade in my Denver Broncos hat for a Mossimo hat I saw at Target, and nail it to my head for like the next ten months!
I read in a previous post that your hair does not have to be that long to get dreadlocks or braids - which I think are really cool, but six months to being 40 years old (and still listen to Korn, etc., what's that about old headbangers never die.....), my girlfriend thinks I am too old for these, and besides, what happens when my hair gets longer(or should I say, MORE Bozo-like?!)
Break out the box of nails!!!!!!!!

Don't cut it man! You are SO fortunate to have nice thick hair at 39 that even looks like a mop. I think the braid idea sounds especially cool. In fact, I was thinking of doing that with my hair when my bangs grow out.

I think i might be able to help you out, if you can post a pic, with good light. Depending on how bad it is I may be able to recommend you my method which is working splendidly, better than anything i ever tried and i have been screwing with my hair for the last 6 years.
