Losing Faith...

I'm close to the six month mark, and I'm unsure if my hair will ever look the way I want it to be... I have before and after pics. Even though the last pic is somewhat what I want my hair to look like in public, it would be impossible to make my hair look like this after coming out of the shower...
It will curl straight up on the sides, and if I try to comb some bangs, they will curl up as well. This is drving me up the wall at this point... Does this hair even look promising if I were to grow it shoulder length?
Thanks.

I've found that hair lenght plays an important role in how the hair falls about the head, and how it looks. I would definitely grow your hair out longer before making a decision. It will look different, and you will have more time to get used to it. I believe that most people would call the lenght you have now the "akward stage". It looks poor on most people.

Try blow drying it with gel in it, it will keep the flips out and make it lay even

I think that it takes some time of growing out to get a feel for the kind of hair you have--after all, if you've always kept it short, you probably haven't seen whether it's curly or straight or wavy (or if you're like me, all of the above!). You are definitely in that awkward stage, and if you want to keep it up, you need to let it grow for at least another 6-9 months.
Honestly, you will also probably need to find a different hair style--again, what worked with short hair may not work with longer hair. Try a different part, or slicking it back--just work with it and take some risks. After all, that is one of the pleasures of having longer hair--you get to play with it and experiment with different looks that short hair would never accomodate.
Hang in there and have fun! The destination is definitely worth the journey!
