ALL YOUR BASE NOW BELONG TO US

Heh...
My hair has gotten long enough to make a stupid little pony-tail in back, but the front won't reach... The question is whether or not to trimn the back, about up to the ears, cutting it into a chin length bob eventually, and then letting it grow out, or to just not cut it...

Just exactly where does that quote come from, anyway?

P.S. back on topic, here's a picture of me from a few years ago. I had to cut it off for a new job, and I'm now growing it back (currently at a 6-inch ponytail). Whadya think?

Scott.......all I can say is that if I had a mane like that, it would be waist length because there's no way I'd be letting anyone near me with scissors. You've got the hair a lot of us could only wish for.

Thanx, Dave . . . I have decided that I will not cut it no matter what this time.

I'd just grow it out. Even it up later, once it has grown out to where you want it to be. That's what I'm doing. Sounds like you're at the same length I'm at currently. If you use the Biotin 600 from GNC and double their recommended dosage, you will notice that the hair is growing twice as fast as it normally would. The only side effect might be that you'll be a bit more tired than before, otherwise, there are no side effects.

Tiredness... noooo I can't afford that... and I'm fine with the growth rate, I just hate having this semi-mullet look...

Welcome to the club. I hate it too... But, it is only a phase. Within 6-8 months or so, you'll probably have grown out to something that looks better. Trust me on this... Currently, I'm around what I was back in early 1999. By the time summer rolled around, it was a lot longer and I was able to pull my hair back in a pretty decent ponytail... Still didn't have the front and top completely long enough to get those sections pulled back. Never really got that far, since the person I was seeing for my haircuts didn't know that I wanted something other than a mullet. Now she knows and realizes that I won't be in for a good year or two... I'll probably go in once I have my 16-18" long ponytail... Just to get things all one length, but not shorter. I do not want to go shorter than that length...

This seems obvious to me but a lot of people dont get this. Don't like looking like you got a mullet? Do NOT grow your hair out from a buzz. It will look ridiculous, plus you get that nasty neck hair that doesnt behave well at all, and on a lot of people you get a ducktail in the back in the middle because it grows much faster and thicker than the sides of the back. Unless you have curly hair, which should be grown even, but trim your neck hairs and the middle part in the back. With straight or wavy hair, Do not begin growing all your hair out until you have at least 3 inches on top. Don't let the back and sides get longer than 1 1/2 - 2 inches, and for maximum neatness not much over 1 inch, it depends on your tolerance. Tell you stylist you want to let the top grow out, as you are trying to grow long hair, but want it cleaned up. Everytime it gets that long get it trimmed down to between 1/4 and 1/2 an inch...Wahl attachments #2 thru #4. Have them start with that on the bottom and have it blend up to the top, it wont look like a bowl cut if its blended or layered up. You can comb it back if you want. Repeat this till you have 3 inches hair on top, then after that last trim, let it grow. By the time the top is to your ears, the back will only be 2 inches or so. If you want you can trim the back/sides up a bit when the top is down to your earlobes. After that you will have removed any traces of a mullet.

Agreed. In my case, I wasn't shaved, so it's not with the nasty neck hairs, but I already have 3" on top, 4.5" on the rear, and 2.5" on the sides ahead of the ears. Behind the ears, it's long enough to be pull back into a small bun. Kinda like the bowl was put of the back of my head and the hair strands ahead of the ears were trimmed. So, that's where I am.

I have always been a fan of cutting top to bottom only, with the exception of bangs. Cutting front to back just doesnt look right to me, seen too many mullets. IF the back is no longer than the sides you wont ever have a mullet.

Yup. That's what I am trying to remedy, but don't feel like chopping my head anymore than it already is right now.
