hey people, I'm 25, I've always had really short hair, almost buzz cut in the back and side, about 1 to 11/2 inch infront. Recently, I've made up my mind to grow it long!!! My question is, should I cut the hair at all (esp, near the nape of my neck) I mean, my hair is coarse and thick, I'm already starting to look like a chia pet, the part around my neck really sticks out and look funny, :-( Can I just keep that part short until the front and top grows long enough to my neck. My second question is what do I do about side burns? How high do u guys recommend cutting it, or not cutting it at all and grow it and push behind the ears. Thanks, alot, people for reading this,
chia pet, needs help,

I'm 19 and had a similar haircut when I started growing mine out seven months ago. My recommendation: if it bothers you, definitely get it trimmed at the base of your neck. That will give the hair on top a chance to catch up with the hair in back. (I haven't had mine trimmed this way, but I'm not bothered by the way it looks.)
The sideburns took me a while to figure out. I have short sideburns, and eventually decided to let the sideburn hairs grow out the same as the rest. I shave all the way up to the sideburn hair, but avoid cutting it (I've found this is easier with an electric shaver than a razor). And yeah, it's easy to tuck behind your ears. When mine gets a lot longer I'll also wear it untucked.
Jeff Bridges has sideburns like mine in the attached image.
