a salon that will listen to you?

is there a salon in washington dc or maryland that will listen to what you want. i have short hair right now but i want to grow it long. everytime i go to my salon just to get an undershave they cut my hair short again. no matter how many times i tell them not to they still do. i need help. please email me at nirvana_118@hotmail.com with your answer thank you

Find a salon that will sign papers to do only what you want, and take before and after pics. I have a girlfriend that does this, and while it does cost a few dollars more, her hair is exactly the way she wants it. Or, what I do is do my own hair. I do everything, because I don't trust the salons. Whenever I shampoo, I *may* have the shampoo done at a salon, but they don't get out the scissors.
Other than that, I'd suggest having someone at home that you trust to do it. 99% of salons are Scissor-Happy and go "Clip! Snatch! Bang!" and before you know it, they'll make you bald.

I used to have that same problem. Tell them NO, NONE off the top AT ALL. When my hair got longer they would put hair clips in to hold the hair up and out of the way while they clippered the bottom. I didnt have just a blunt undercut though, the upper sides below the top was still scissor cut to an inch or two, but they knew that I wanted that trimmed up a bit with scissors each time, the rest clipped short, and NONE off the top. Before, they would clip it with the top down, and they would lift the clippers away when they got up to the top, which was trimming off my new growth on the top everytime.
I recommend going to a decent barber rather than a salon. Depending on where you live they should be much more experienced with undercuts. They are very popular here in Illinois, so the barbers know what you're asking for. I go to Hair Cuttery, they charge $11.00 for a cut and shampoo, and I believe $5 for a "trim" such as just an undershave with the clippers. All but one of the barbers that works there is female, and they all do exactly what I ask 90 % of the time, the couple of times where I wasn't 100 percent satisfied it ended up not making a difference 2 weeks later. Give them a try if you have one near you, I think its a big chain.

Can't help you with names of new places, perhaps try asking your local Better Business Bureau.
But you could do these:
1) Pictures of before and after.
2) Voice recording of your instructions to the cutter including their statement of understanding.
If they do not do as you've requested, do not pay, and perhaps go to your local Better Business Bureau to have them listed as a problematic installation.
If they try to sue for the cost of cutting, you've got the proof that they broke their side of the contract.
If you feel uncomfortable being so hard-line; mention to the manager your dissatisfaction, that you will not return, and that you'll never say anything nice about their store. Perhaps with-hold any tip as the cutters do rely upon these to some extent for their living.
