Why does my hair flip up...........

Hi my hair is lil past my ears and the tips on the sides and the bottolm in the back flips up,..it looks like i always just took off a hat..but i never wear hats...i have wavy hair..why does it do this and how can i stop it?

I have wavy hair and I have the exact same problem. My hair is a couple inches past my chin all the way around. The only thing that helps is a straightening iron, which dries my hair out so I don't like that. Occasionally my hair will just be flat on it's own. Anyways just hang in there and wait till it gets longer and that may go away.

When combing/(vent)brushing hair straight down while it is wet, generally the flip can be removed by turning the hair under near the ends. It helps if hair has been trimmed to provide an "edge": outmost hair is about half an inch longer than innermost hair. (Sorry if this sounds confusing--it's a case of technique being so much easier to demonstrate than explain).

My hair is in like the 7th month of growing out and I have a huge flip in back as well. I dont know what to do about it either, my mom says she wouldnt mind me growing my hair out as much if it didnt do that. :(

You guys just have to get through that stage of growth where your hair flips. People with wavy hair almost always have that problem. That is one of the reasons my hair never got really long. I eventually shaved my head bald a number of years ago. That was really cool for a while. Now I just wear my hair short. I am one of those guys who like extreme...all or nothing! ;)

See the thing is my hair is really straight, I dont know why it would be doing this...I guess I'll just have to wait until it weighs itself down?

my hairs real straight too and it does this. dunno why but theres nothing ive found that does much good. you can wet it and comb it that helps a little bit i suppose. it sucks doesnt it. if you wait long enough it will go away

I have that problem too. I don't mind it that much so I'm probably just going to trim it every month or so until the rest of my hair is the same length.

Hello, I have this problem too when I first started out growing my hair. It had terrible and ugly flips all round during my first year of growth. But the hair straightens out after it touched my shoulders. Sadly, when it reached mid-back, I've had to get it cut (under unwilling circumstances).
Then recently, I had it grow out again. I found that the second time round, the problem of flips did not occur (to my pleasant surprise). Now, I have hair back to my armpits and its quality seems to be better than the first time growth.
I thought this could be a common problem for first time growers with wavy hair. Hair goes through a "conditioning" phase when you've never had long hair in your life before. After this phase, the problem should be less pronounced (even you had your hair cut and have it regrow again).
