styling idea - awkward stage

Being in the middle of the awkward stage, I've been trying to find some good way to style my hair, and I have found one style that I like a lot. My hair is quite thick and slightly wavy, so I don't know how it will work with other types of hair. I've been growing from almost a shaved head so the hair in the back is longer than the hair in the front, resulting in ducktails, which looks great with this style :-)
Anyways, if my hair is dry, I wet the top/sides, and an inch or two down the back. Then put in gel, and comb backwards, so you get the top and sides slicked back, and then the hair down in the back is dry, so it's kinda puffy and sticks out. Not sure how good this explanation is, but it resembles the look of metallicas singer/guitarist James, during the S&M concert. Try to find photos of him, if you're interested.
