dude, i am 16 and ive beengrowing it for about 7 months now.it seems to me (not to sound like an arse hole or nothing) that you have no concept of what grwoing your hair actually takes.if your hair is really curly than you will never have straight hair unless you relax it(more on that later.)The long curly look can be compared to dimebag darrell of the band PanterA's hair.If you hair is moderately curly then you hair will be wavy when it gets long but not really curly, kind of like jeff hanneman of slayer. If your hair is straight or very lightly curly then your hair will be straight when it grows out. No matter what hair type you are, its gonna take 1.5 to 2 years before gets the "long" look. Then, you might deside you want your hair longer and let it grow for a few more years(this isnt as bad because at least your hair is at a "long" looking length.)If you hair is moderatly curly (the wavy look) then i would recommend growing it because even though it will always be sorta wavy when it gets long it will still be pretty straight. If your hair is staight (obviously) its gonna stay that way. If your hair is curly then the akward stage(period when your hair is too short to be long but too long to be short) is gonna be pretty rough, but it will still look awesome long.n No matter what type your hair will always look relatively straight once it get enough length because it will get heavier and gravity will hold it down. if this still isnt straight enough than you can get your hair relaxed. This is when they put a type of acid into your hair and it "burns" your hair into being straight. This is not healthy for your hair and although it may seem like a good idea now , after youve grown it for 2 years or so youll prolly feel diferently, because of the time of growing it you willl really get into taking good care of your hair, and you wont want to take the chance of wrecking it because that would be 2 years down the drain. My recomendation to you, especially since you aid you dont mind waiting years, is just to grow it. If it gets long and its not the way you originally wanted it to look, u can get it relaxed. But you willprolly like the way your hair is and not want to change is. hope ive helped, and no matter what, dont cut it!

what a nice taste in music you seem to have :-)
gotta say that I loved how Jason Newsted's hair looked when it was long.. and Kirk's hair is looking really good now, as opposed to 10 years ago =) (that mustach (not sure about the spelling) looked terrible ;P)

try using hair condiner and leaving it in , instead of washing it out

I would disagree. Conditioner is meant to only be on for 3 or 4 minutes in the shower, not left in. That is, unless it is a leave-in conditioner, which would be specified on the bottle. Leaving it in for a long time could do more damage to your hair than good. After all, it is a chemical conconction.
Besides, that wouldn't solve the problem. Hair is naturally a certain style on each person. Even if he did leave conditioner in (bad idea), it would still be curly. Only difference is that he'll now have a glob of chemicals slathered across his scalp.
