hot oil treatments

We all know that the right oils can be very good for hair. We also know that heat can cause a lot of really bad damage. BUT, I see hot oil treatments in stores all the time that claim to be really good for hair ( this is a little confusing since hot water is supposed to be so bad for hair ).
Has anyone on this board tried any hot oil treatments? Are they actually worth it, or do they do more harm than good?
I've been wondering about them for a while now since this seems to be the only way to buy hair oils in my area (I wonder if it would work to buy the treatments and then just use the oil without heating it first - have any of you ever tried that?). I'm tempted to try one, but I'm trying really hard to take good care of my hair, and I don't really see much point spending my money on something to damage it.

Yep. But home made. Rather simple : you take Monoi, put it in hot water for a while. Then you put monoi on your hair, cover your hair to make a maximal effect, and wait for at least half an hour. Then you shampoo as usual. I do this one time a week.
I you have dry hair like mine, oil treatment are very good.
You can also put it directly (not hot) on the extremeties of your hair, but very little if you don't want an oily look.
You can buy monoi (coconut oil with tiare flowers macerated) on the web directly.
Hope this helps

Yeah, I've tried them. If used occasionally and sparingly, they can help bring a bit of gloss back to your hair. HOWEVER, if you're in the middle of the awkward stage and if your hair is a bit wavy/curly, (like mine!) you might find that for some reason your hair becomes even more messy and difficult to control. God only knows why that should be.
