Conditioning damage hair?

Can conditioner-abuse (using it too much) damage your hair in anyway, like dry it out, or make it unpleasent, like making it greasy? Conditioing my hair makes it easier to handle, but I'm afraid to do it everyday or so, incase it'll cause long-term problems...

I have used proprietary conditioners for several years, mainly for the same reason as you - ease of handling, and as an aid to stop individual 'flyaway' hairs appearing all over my head! Now that I am growing my hair longer, my hairdresser has warned me against using any conditioner that contains 'plastics', as most proprietary brands do.
OK the plastic coats each hair and makes it easier to comb and brush, but it has the effect apparently of destroying the hair too.
I have stopped using those conditioners, even my favourite: 'Pantene', and am using Matrix Essentials Instacure treatment (imported into the UK from the USA - Ohio) and am delighted with the results.
Hope this helps.
Ham.

I've been using Pantene conditioner for years without any problems. Once a week, though, I use a "clarifying" shampoo to get rid of any buildup. Apply a bit of a "shine" product, and all is well.
