Ann Landers Advice Column

:Anyone read yesterdays Ann Landers advice column? It was about a 12 year old BOY who wanted to grow his hair to shoulder length and his parents DID NOT have a problem with it. However, it was the mother's mother and sister who demanded the boy cut his hair or he is not welcome at family gatherings. Ann Lander's advice: She told the mother that she is under no obligation to "chop it off" to suit the mother's mother. Any grand parent who would deprive herself of the companionship of a grandchild because of the length of his hair is missing out on a lot.

The grandmother would probably be happier with a grandchild robot from her own era. I can see her being sorely disappointed with many things to come in this boy's life. Lots of parents do that too, they want a baby but fail to realize that they are really raising an individual who will one day become an adult...in a different world than the one they were raised in.

Yeah, I think it's almost criminal or at least very stupid to think your offspring will be carbon copies of you that give you an immortality of sorts.

Hooray again for Ann reminding people to mind their own business! :-) I've been pleased to see quite a change of attitude among advice columns in the past decade, from being rather stridently insistent about conformity to promoting "doing your own thing" as long as it doesn't get in anyone else's way.

That's too bad for the Grandma and the Aunt. They will miss out on a lot just because of the length of the young dude's hair. If the guy was rude and did things to upset them purposely, that would be another story. One's appearance should not be at issue over whether we want to be involved in someone's life or not. I suspect these two have issues of their own. This makes no sense!
