Dry hair and Accutane

I want to know if anyone here has any experience with the drug Accutane. I finished my second course about 2 months ago, and my hair is still very dry. While the hair near the scalp has definitely gone more back to normal, the ends are still very dry. I'm wondering when it will all go back to normal, and I can stop wetting my hair everytime I want to go out and worrying about it getting dry and wide and frizzy if I'm out for too long away from a water source.

Hey man, I'm going on accutane in March, I have avoided going on it for 4 years now, but i'm fed up and I "WAS" ready the plunge. That is until i've seen people posting on here about the dryness that stays with you even when you finish the drug. My hair is already extremely dry and poofy, yadayadayada.... so if I go on the drug what will happen? I'm thinking my hair will turn to straw. It kind of makes me think that I made a bad decision to start growing my hair out while i'm going to be on this drug, but i'm already a year and a few months in so i'm not going back and I'm just slowly coming out of the awkward stage. Any accutane users on here have regrets of going on the drug? Thanks.

Hey, you sound just like me. I started my first course in March of 2000. I would say I have some regrets, but I don't know how bad my acne would be if I never took it, and the scarring, etc... plus, after my first course, my hair did return to normal. I'm not sure how long it took, because I washed it once or twice a day so it was extremely dry regardless, but it did. But, (but keep in mind I've only been done with the second coruse for 2 months) after this second course my hair hasn't returned to normal yet. I'm keeping the hope alive though. In terms of other regrets, there's this ringing in my ears that is a mystery to the doctors (as ringing of the ears often is) but I'm not ruling out Accutane as the reason for that either. But dude, since I've been in your shoes, I'm gonna give you some advice. Really hear me out on this. I don't know how bad your acne is, or how old you are, but if your acne is not bad enough to give you scarring, and if you're young enough to say that you will probably outgrow your acne, then my honest opinion is don't take Accutane. I know how hard it is, trust me... Ive been there, and never want to be there again. You just want it to go away. But if you can just tough it out and let it go away naturally (and I know you can), then that is the way to go. E-mail me at xyuzero@hotmail.com if you want to talk. Later and good luck.

Let me make a list of problems Accutane has caused me:
1) Very dry, fluffy, weird hair
2) Red hands and face
3) EXTREME, EXTREME sun sensitivity (had VERY bad sunburn 2nd degree)
4) Depression
5) Fatigue
6) Illogical thinking
7) 3 ingrown toenails
8) Chronic chapped lips that plague me even today (2 years later)
ETC.
Most of these symptoms i still have, some went away like the red hands.
And if you do take accutane, don't under any circumstances take hot showers. Will someone tell me if they have also had problems with being tired after accutane? And also if anyone got anxiety problems from the accutane? Thanks

I took Accutane during college in the 80's with a lot of discomfort, nose bleeds, dry and cracked lips, tiredness from loss of potassium, as well as hair loss. In addition, I had extreme sun sensitivity. These symtoms all cleared once I stopped taking the medication. The thickness of my hair never returned but it was curly once the medication was done. My acne cleared up significantly while taking the medication. However, once I quit taking the medication I began suffering again, but not to the extreme that I had before. Now that I am in my thirties, I still suffer from acne on my chest and chin. I have started using Clinique products for men that seemed to help more than the accutane ever did. The dryness in my hair and skin improved but never returned to the condition prior to taking the medicine. If you are considering taking the medication, try everything else before you decide. Accutane should be the last resort after all other options have been considered.

Thanks for the reply. Accutane isn't all it's cracked up to be. Thanks for the advice, but I'm afraid it's a little late. I've already taken the drug. I assure you I will never take it again though.
