help-keeping bangs straight

Ok, I started growing (just) my bangs out maybe mid-july to early september. Anyway, they're getting longish and are /when straight/ at the bottom portion of my eyes. And I really like tbe look of them just hanging straight down but they won't! When my hair dries, they curl to the side and get fluffy.
Is there a way to keep my bangs straight without using gels (yuck) or steaming them?

I agree, I hate gel. If you don't want to use a straightening iron (which can damage the hair and dry it out), I suggest don't wash as often. Cut way, way down. The extra oils actually help to weigh hair down a lot. Anyways, when my hair was your length, the bangs were crazy, curling so much they looked like horns. You might be amazed how straight your hair gets as it gets longer. I'm by no means an expert though - maybe others on the board will have better advice, but without using styling products or irons, I don't see what else you can do besides what I suggested. Hope this helps.

Your hair could be naturally curly and in fact, you could do nothing about it. For now, you might have to tolerate the curls until when it gets longer, then it might get weighed down and become straighter.
Keep a lookout if your curls are defined or not. Frizzy hair could also result in curls, just that they are random and always appear to curl differently (eg. after shampooing etc.). If that happens, it would mean your hair is too dry, especially at the ends. Therefore, (the ends) do not have sufficient moisture to weigh your shaft down and straight. This could be rectified by using moisturizing conditioners, applying oils prior to shampooing and applying leave-in conditioners.
Also, try not to shampoo too frequently and avoid using too much shampoo each time (suggestion: dilute your shampoo with water before applying to the scalp). Too frequent and harsh shampooing dries out your hair significantly and could result in flyaways. Always condition your hair after that to eliminate static electricity build-up during shampooing.
Hope my suggestions helps.

Let it dry this way

When it's wet, comb it all back in a slick style. Let it dry naturally that way and shake it out when it's fully dry. This almost always gives me straight bangs. It may not work until your hair is long enough though.
