Barbers aren't all bad

To begin, for those out there growing, I agree that you shouldn't get a hair cut if you're growing it all out.
I went to a barber (well, female, salonish, hair stylist) because I'm only growing my bangs out and after 3 months the rest of my head was pretty shaggy, too. So I went and asked her to cut the hair close and not touch the bangs. She did exactly that: a little closer than I might've liked in the back but my bangs aren't a milimeter shorter. Just wanted to balance out the barbershop horror stories.

I agree. I've been growing my hair out for almost 5 and a half months now I think. Anyway, I got my hair trimmed earlier on because it definitely made me look cleaner and I think in such an early stage it's okay to do if you don't want to look to grungy. you really have to make sure your barber knows what you want though so you don't lose a terrible amount of growth! I think sacrificing a bit of hair for a clean look is alright if needed. Let's face it, some people don't want to look shaggy when growing out their hair at first, and during the first couple months it's definitely an adjustment from what most people are used to. It WILL put your growth back a bit, but just make sure you know what you want and it doesn't have to be as bad as some may say it is.
