long hair on Crow Indians

I was looking around the tlhs messageboard earlier today and found a link that someone had posted to an article from the 1840's about Crow indians. The author seems to be very inpressed by the long hair of the men in the tribe (hey, who wouldn't be?), many of them had hair long enough to drag the ground when they walked, It's pretty interesting, although some of the people on the board did question it's accuracy in some areas.
If anyone is interested, you can read the article at http://www.xmission.com/~drudy/mtman/html/catlin/letter8.html

And pics can be found at the National Gallery of Art's excellent web site. Go to:
http://www.nga.gov/collection/srchart.htm
and search for "Catlin" as artist and "crow" in the title.
