Wirey hair at back

Hi everyone. I have had long hair for a while and sometimes I love it, sometimes I hate it. The hair on top of my head is really straight and manageable and is really easy to do stuff with. If only this was the case with the back of my head, my life would be full of joy!!!
Basically, the hair at the back (down to just below chin length and layered a bit) is pretty okay when wet, then it dries and sometimes goes really wirey looking/feeling and thick looking/feeling. I started using olive oil on it when I rinse in the morning and it does wonders but I still often get the annoying "wireyness" at the back.
Do you think that getting an undercut only at the back will thin it out a bit and make it lie better without being thick and wirey? (BTW, my hair is averagely straight and 'quite' thick).
I basically want it all to be straight and to just hang instead of curling and wiring up at the back. PLEASE HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!

If it was me, and the hair was long enough in the back, I'd consider getting a thio straightener. Similar to a perm, only they make the hair straight instead of curly. But, not seeing your hair, I really can't say for sure if this would be good for you. You might visit your local salon and run this idea by them, see what they say. You might have to visit a few before you get an agreeable answer . . .
