Ethan Hawke hair

Hi,
I have hair which is pretty similar (lengthwise/stylewise) to that of Ethan Hawke in this photo (see link below) but it is not nearly as neat or tidy or as manageable looking as his is. Can anyone tell me how to achieve this look.

Also, the back of my hair is really wirey and scruffy and thick looking, not nearly as neat and flat looking as his is. Do you think an undercut just at the back would achieve the effect he has on the picture?
Also (again!), what styling product (i.e. pomade? Olive oil?) is used to get his look?
