very dry hair did I ruin my hair forever

I have taken 2 courses of Accutane. Here's a brief history:
first course: march-august 2000... I always washed my hair a lot. when I stopped doing this was march of the next year, 7 months after I stopped the medicine, and my hair would get oily and quite manageable after 2-3 days of not washing. So I don't know when exactly in those 7 months my hair returned to normal, or close to normal, but I know that 7 months later it was ok.
second course: april-september 2001... I have been off for 5 months now and I can go 4 days without washing hair, the hair near the scalp being quite oily but the ends still being dry, whether I brush my hair or massage my scalp or run my fingers through my hair or rinse with water... I'm afraid that the second course did more damage then the first, and this depresses me so much. I love long hair and don't want to live without it. Is 5 months too soon to give up hope? I've tried jojoba oil which I was told is almost identical to sebum but sure didn't look natural to me. How do I know they didn't rip me off and give me vegetable oil or something? Anyway, I could use some support. Thanks.
