Flicking out at the back?

Hi,
I'm currently right smack in the middle of the awkward stage, my bangs just coming up past my nostrils. I have thick straight hair, but that's not my problem. My problem is that at the moment, the back is longer than the front, and some of the back flicks out to the sides, over 90 degrees! It really looks awkwards, and I dislike it immensly. Any tips to getting rid of it?
If not, I'll just grow it out right? I'm aiming for a chin/ middle-of-neck bob style haircut (think Kurt Cobain). If I had it that length, the rest of my hair, the front and the sides, will cover up or stop the hair from flicking out, right?
Help me please!

Go to a local beauty supply store and buy a hair straightening tool. It's like a curling iron, but much gentler and is ade to straighten hair out.
I have very long hair and use mine every few days to get rid of some problem areas and make them straight.
Avoid relaxers and/ or other chemicals. Use mositerizers and straightening serums.
Hope this helps.
