Just got a trim &hate it! How long till... it gets back to normal?
Hello, my hair used to be about 5 inches long in the front, and 4 inches long in the back. Before I got a maintenance cut on the 25th, the last time I had cut my hair was in August. (Approximately 6 months since I had had a haircut). I love the way my hair looked. It looked shaggy, it didnt look so clean cut, I looked more like a laidback kind of guy, rather than a "pretty boy" that almost every other guy tried to be with the same hair style (no offense to anyone, it was the only description I could think of). I liked my hair, cause it was different, and I stood out in a good way. Until I got a trim. I got a trim, and told the stylist that I was still growing my hair longer, and wanted to keep the length. Ok....so she cuts off 1 inch all around. There goes about 2 month's worth of hair. Now, I am completely UNhappy with my hair. I hate it, I just wanna shave it all off now. I hate the way it looks, the stylist pretty much tried to give me a new hairstyle for some reason, even though I never asked for one. Do you think the maintenance cut was worth it(Approximately $34)? Is it possible that my hair might even grow out even better(thinner, better layered, not so big and not so wavy)? Do you think I should lessen my anger, and just wait it out? Does anyone have any kind of tips? Should I cut my hair even shorter and start all over again? Any kind of comments are appreciated, Thanks

I can definitely relate!
About 9 months ago I went in to get just the split ends, which had become really bad, trimmed off. My hair at the ends looked rather ragged, so I wanted the nice healthy look back.
The lady butchered my hair. I was so pissed! She claimed to cut off only what was needed, but I walked out with about 3" less than I walked in with.
All I could do, being a longhair (with that "pretty boy" look), was just wait and let it grow back out. I suggest you do the same. Just wait. A few months is no big deal. My hair has since grown right back out and looks just fine. At the time, I was so upset I actually considered whacking it all off. I knew I never could though. Now I'm back to my usual long length and very happy.
I've also found a stylist that I completely trust. I go in every two months so he can get rid of the sloppy stuff, but still let my hair get longer. Since seeing him, I'm 2" longer with his very slight touchup cuts. He cuts so little you can't see any difference other than losing the ragged ends.
My hair is long, about halfway down my back.
Anyway...don't cut! You were attacked by a stylist that cut your hair the way he/ she wanted it. Just wait, it'll be back to normal soon. You'll REALLY regret it if you let this prompt you to lose what you have.
Tip: Next time, find a stylist and tell them you INSIST that he/ she do your hair EXACTLY per your instructions. I hope you can find someone you can always trust like I have.
DO NOT CUT your hair! Just wait. It'll be okay before you know it!

: Do you think the maintenance cut was worth it(Approximately $34)?
I can't imagine any haircut being worth $34.
From what I've seen, the price you pay for a cut doesn't necessarily guarantee its quality.
: Is it possible that my hair might even grow out even better(thinner, better layered, not so big and not so wavy)?
Not really . . . your hair will grow out just as well as if you hadn't cut it. Won't affect the waves at all.
: Do you think I should lessen my anger, and just wait it out?
It'll be fine. At my hair school, we have a saying: "The difference between a good haircut and a bad haircut is two weeks."
: Does anyone have any kind of tips?
Maybe next time you should go for a razor cut. It will tame what needs to be tamed and leave a "stylish" irregular fringe. Just tell the cutter to use the razor to cut the ends blunt, and if he/she can't do it (lots can't), look elsewhere.
: Should I cut my hair even shorter and start all over again?
Nah . . . it'll be fine.
I remember the time a cutter at Toni & Guy skewered my hair . . . left me looking like Bozo the clown. Took a little while to get it back into reasonable shape, but it eventually did. Now it's around 6" above my belt, so it all worked out.

I would go back and ask the stylist to give it some razor texturizing on the ends. It will give you less of a "just cut" look. I would also tell them that you are unhappy with the haircut, so that she does not charge you again! I would never pay $34.00 for a haircut and I am a woman! Try finding someone who cuts hair on the side that will follow your instructions. I would not cut it all off, because I think that time will fixt this problem. I have not cut my hair for 5 months and don't think that a maintenance haircut is really necessary unless the hair is really damaged with split ends, dry, breaking off, or has alot of tangles. Keep it growing and save your money in the future.
