Women, the job market, and Long Hair

First let me say that I want to encourage you guys to grow your hair long if that is what you desire to do.

Now, let me state my opinion regarding Women and their attitudes about Long Hair on Men.
Women have and will probably always be fashion conscious. it's their nature.
during the 1960's and 1970's many women preferred Longer styles on Men and even encouraged their short-haired boyfriends, or husbands to grow their hair longer.

during the 1980's a change occurred. Women now decided that 'Long Hair' was passe (with the exception of young female Metal fans) and encouraged their male partners to get a shorter style.

the bottom line is this: When Long Hair was 'in', the Women liked it, but when it became 'out', the Women decided they didn't like it.

the current norm for Men is short to buzzed and Women prefer it, because they follow the trends.

now, there may be some Women out there who are the exception, but the majority of Women, especially under the age of 40 prefer short hair on Men.

Now, as for the Job Market, many employers are either under pressure from above to request that their Male employees cut their hair, or they have biased/predjudiced views about Long Haired Males. many of their clients might hold this view when they themselves do not.

part of the biased/predjudiced views stem from the 1960's/1970's era when Long Hair became a sign of rebellion and anti-establishment attitudes and drug use became commonplace. many People still equate long hair on a Man with illegal drug use even though the use of illegal drugs has not declined and most Men who use drugs have short hair.

Still, it's a predjudiced view, but this is what exists in many peoples minds regarding Long Hair on Men.

the biased ignorant views of many seem to conviently forget the fact that Our Founding Fathers(U.S) were Long hairs such as Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson while holding outdated views that were more common during the 1960s and 1970s then today.

hopefully this will change, for the increase in professional Men with longer hair styles may dispell the stereotype eventually, but probably not completely.

it takes time for the human race to wake up.
