My hair sucks!

I'm in the awkward stage and have not-so-pretty hair. The back/sides are pretty much straight (except for a few ends that flip out esp the ones by neck) however the top is really wavy, almost curly. So this is kind of weird, I have two different hair types I guess. My hair is very dry and feels pretty rough if I put my hands through it and usually doesn't look good at all. What kind of hair is this? Is it even worth growing out? My hair doesn't move much, like if I'm excercising inside the house I can be jumping rope and the hair seems to be fixed on my head (I hate this it makes it look like I wear gel) however if I go in the wind my hair will get all messed up and won't fall back down but stay that way, which I also hate. I have heard Aussie Hair Insurance is good for this but I don't know. Oh and I only shampoo once every two weeks, condition daily and deep condition twice a week with Aussie three minute miracle. Any tips or comments would be appreciated.

I have pretty dry hair too, and I find that conditioning dries my hair out just like shampoo only not as much. So I only condition once every other day or every two days, and that seems to keep my hair manageable. On days between conditioning, I just rinse my hair in warm water. Maybe you could try something like that and see if it works for you too.

You know, i never even thought about that. I will be sure to try only washing in water for 2-3 days and see how it goes. Thanks for the advice. I just hope by the time my hair is about mid-back that it looks ok, I'm guessing it's going to look something like Tom Araya's (singer/bassist from Slayer if anyone has seen him) hair since my texture seems to be most similar to his. That's not too bad I guess, a bit less wavy wouldn't hurt but i'll be happy just having really long hair.

I believe it was Matt C who said something about herbal rinsing instead of shampooing...it sounded interesting and i saw his pic and he has really great looking hair. I also find Aussie 3 Minute Miracle only helps to make my hair dryer :(

Well, good luck with the new strategy. And if your hair looks like Tom Araya's, it should be pretty damn cool looking by the time it's long.
