Cetearyl Alcohol in Aussie

I know products with alcohol are bad and almost everyone here agrees that Aussie makes the best (or some of the better) hair products. However when I was looking at the label on the Moist Conditioner I noticed that the ingredient after water is Cetearyl alcohol. Does this hurt the hair?

It's used as a thickener for the product. I read (somewhere) it's harmless . . .

I have another book (Don't Go Shopping for Hair Care Products Without Me, by Paula Begoun) that says:
THICKENERS. These ingredients are responsible for the texture, appearance, and movement of the finished product for shampoos, conditioners, and styling products. There are literallly hundreds of thickening ingredients used in hair-care products. Typical thickening agents used are cetyl alcolho, stearyl alcohol, caprylic acid, hydrogenated lanolin, PEGs, glycol stearate, and palmitic acid.

If I was going to worry about stuff in shampoos, I'd worry about DEA and MEA (stuff used to make the lather). In strong concentrations, they're linked to cancer in laboratory mice (but not rats). The FDA posted something about 'em, and they're doing further research into the matter before they caution the general public.
