How should I dry my hair after washing?
Posted by Daerfindel on April 17, 2002 at 14:39:05: Previous Next
I'm about 6 months growing my hair. It's very VERY wavy and thick and pretty greasy (though sometimes it feels very dry). My question is:
it's better to dry it with a towel or a dryer or just leave it air drying?
Thanks

Air drying is ALWAYS best. Towel drying ruffles the cuticles of your hair, damaging it. Blowdrying dries your hair out over time, also damaging it.

I let it dry naturally too. If I towel dry it it tends to be pretty HUGE the next day.
another suggestion...

Another idea is to just get a buzz cut and not even worry about it at all!
These guys have great buzz cut tips!

Hahahahaha! Just kidding of course!
I gently dry my hair with a towel. Just "dab" the towel rather than forcibly running it through your hair.

which is fine,
but that reminded me of another benefit of air drying; the wet hair helps to keep you cool when it is hot. (it is here now.) i find it very refreshing to let it air dry.

I agree, however it is winter over here.

Air drying works best for me. It takes 2 to 3 hours to completely dry though.

Thanks to all of you that have helped, but now I have another question:
If I let it air dry, should I comb it when it is wet (it's supposed to be very bad for hair) or should I leave it as it comes from the shower (all them stuck and towards the back)?

I let it air dry most of the time.
If I am running late, I use a hair dryer set on the coolest temp. It works great.
I manage the wet look by tilting my head backwards under the showerhead so my hair will flow naturally back.
When my hair is dry, I'll comb it with my fingers. Then I comb it with a comb.
