Questions for Gay Longhairs

The last few years, short hair has been SUCH the norm in the gay community (especially under 35 years old). I was just curious if your peers ever treat you strangly. Do you ever get, "I won't date a long haired guy" or "you'd be cuter if you cut your hair"? Does it get to you?
Back in the early 90's, there were many more long haired homos.
I recently searched some personal ads that had lists to chose from of "turn on's" and "turn offs". Almost every single ad listed long hair as a turn off.
I live in Seattle and I see a few very hot guys, not even in the bear or leather scene, who have long hair. It is rather refreshing. Especially if the guy is sorta the "gay boy next door". If you go to a club, maybe one or two out of a crowd of 200 will have long hair. It is always the same one or two guys with long hair.
I just wonder what is like around the country. By comparison, Seattle is so laid back that almost anything is accepted. It is easy to be a long hair here. I doubt there are many companies in this city who have tough dress codes or opinions about long hair.

Yup, short hair has been the norm in the gay male community for some time now. Usually, the more hyper-masculine gay men want to portray themselves the shorter they cut their hair.
From my personal experience I haven't had anyone in the gay community tell me I should trim my locks nor has anyone really dis'd me for my mane. If anything, I've gotten compliments for it and for having grown it out. Among the crowd of short haired knobs my mane really stands out. As do the few other guys with manes.
On the other hand, I don't hang out with the short haired clones in the circuit bars either. Aside from being almost a full generation younger than me (they're on the low end of being twenty-somethings and I've just hit forty) they are also usually much more concerned about doing everything possible to fit in with the "in crowd." In that clique Longhair is definitely out. So, if that is your "target market" then you will have little luck as a Longhair.

No doubt us gay longhairs are a minority within a minority these days, but I think its kinda cool. My experience in my area (new England) is that opinions regarding my longhair run about the same in the gay community as the straight community, most dislike it, some have no opinion, and a small minority find it very attactive. But quite frankly, I don't care bercause I finally have the longhair I've wanted for years and have found some other longhaired friends, straight and gay, that feel the same way.

I have been growing my hair for a little more than a year, and so far I think there is a definite "niche market" for long hair in the gay community. Often enough, cute guys come up to me and compliment me on my hair.
Some of the "cookie cutter" trendboys don't like it, but I wasn't acceptable to them when my hair was short.
There are not many gay longhairs here in New York, but I think there are more than there were a couple of years ago.

Well, I've been in a happy 1 to 1 relationship for 6 years, so I don't really go looking for dates, but I have received nothing but nice comments from the few gay blokes I do hang around with here in London
Quite why there is this trend for hyper-short hair in the gay community is beyond me - it certainly doesn't make a queen look more masculine: just makes 'em look like a queen with no hair! :-)

I am not gay but i have very long blond hair and i am always getting hit on by gay guys-go figure
