Scratching hair/scalp

My scalp itches a bit sometimes and I scratch it, does this cause damage to hair? Also, I have heard that when you shampoo you are supposed to scratch the hair/scalp hard to get all the dirt off, this doesn't sound right to me, but is it true?

Don't scratch too hard, hair may be pulled from the roots. It happened to me. Also the shampoo bit is just rubbish. Never deliberately scratch your scalp. Treat it gently, and don't scratch harshly.

I'd suggest seeing a dermatologist if it doesn't clear up.
Some dandruff shampoos will dry or even damage your hair so use only when you really need to.
T-gel is the best on the market for over the counter stuff.
stay clear of Denorex for it'll dry your hair out like a weed and will not cure your dandruff problem.
