Need advice

Hi.
I've been growing my hair for 8 months.
Although I see progress it's very afro like in the sense that although my hair is wavy I have way too much volume and even when I use hair products it gets kinda big after a while(altough much more delicate than let's say few hours after shower).
It kinda bothers me so I'd like to know:
1. Will it get better?
2. Should I thin/Trim the sides to make it look nice?(and yes, I know I shouldn't trim but I'd like information on this option)
Thanks,
Adi.

You're where I am. My hair has a lot of volume too. What I did was go and get it thinned at the back and sides, asking them to take away any of the length. The length is still there and theres less volume, making the hair easier to manage and looking less helmet like. But I suggest you be VERY careful if you do this, some people just plain dont understand and will cut it all wrong.

Oh yeah, it will get better. Also getting the hair thinned like I did might reduce the weight around the bottom possibly reducing the risk of thinning at the top and a receeding hairline. So I was told anyway.
Can u explain what thinning is?

The length was cut, but only from certain layers. For example the hair on the top was pulled up and the layer of hair underneath was cut shorter, so that when the top was let down again it fell back into place and covered the part that was cut. It doesnt look any shorter but is easier to manage and not as big. Sorry if thats not very clear (which it isnt) but its difficult to explain.
