Greetings, brothers. I'm a long-haired redhead who is tired of the "requirement" that men SHOULD have short hair. I live in a rural area in California. 99 percent of the men out here have the standard "little boy's haircut". Fortunately, there are a lot of musicians here (like myself); so occasionally I run into friends and other longhairs when shopping, etc.
I was searching the internet; trying to find out when and where this short-hair standard originally got started when I found this site. Anyone know? Who started this stereotype conformity crap?
I've had to cut my hair for certain jobs -- BUT I WILL NO MORE!!
So far, it's been growing since 1990 and will NEVER be cut. My girlfriend loves it. She doesn't like short-haired men. I suppose she recognizes that those of us who don't conform to the "norm" just may have more to offer(?). I grew my hair because it simply feels right for me. I want to people to know just by looking at me that I'm not the average "robot" that you see so much in society. I question authority; don't take things at face value; and certainly don't judge someone on their looks. I believe that most of us long-hairs feel that way.
Anyway, thanks for reading. All comments are welcome. Could someone point the way to the "buzzcut" forum? I need a good laugh.

are you located? Don't need to be real specific.

you were located in NORTHERN California. Yours truly being in

It was probably the Romans, who decided that their soldiers should have shaved heads a) to stop them having head lice b) to make them easy to identify amongst the longhaired people they were fighting and c) to impose a conformity on them.
The same ideas have been used ever since to crush individuality by imposing an artificial uniform or dress code.
Yet judges abd oither members of the legal professionin many countries still wear wigs: the extra hair being a symbol of authority.
A very confused image.
Similarly, there are monks who shave their heads as a symbol of piety and in other religions people who never cut their hair as a symbol of holiness.
Many ultra conventional people say that longhaired musicians also wear a uniform: go to see a band and everybody looks the same. Not entirely true, but even to the extent that it is true, this is a look which people have chosen for themselves.
I like to think that as a long haired man myself that I am more tolerant of everybody - to say that the only thing I can't stand is intolerance is an old joke but it's true. We should stand up for our rights to be individuals and not tolerate those who abuse their positions of power over others.

"The Haircut Reserves" was on Geocities, but got kicked off because it suggested harrassment and physical aggression. I think I have the HTML saved somewhere.
If you posted anything pro-hair they usually deleted it.
