i think i may go bald! : (

I'm only 17 years old and my hair is about 3 or 4 inches past my nipples.... i love my hair... i have no idea what i'd do with out it! i looked horrible with out it... my problem is my ponytail is only about as thick as a quarter or maybe even a nickel! is it normal to have hair this thin!?! i don't have an undercut or anything.... thats all my hair! plus my hairline seem rather high.
the only relative i know of that is bald is one of my three uncles on my mom's side... although he claims he is bald because of a scalp disease... does anyone know a scalp disease that could do this.... if so if i went to the doctor is there anything to do?
or atleast what should i do if my lack of hair becomes noticable? i don't want to attempt to keep long hair if im half bald, i refuse to pull a Hulk Hogan! lol... but yea... thanx for reading this if i havn't bored you yet...

Try to stress yourself out about it, keep yourself well-hydrated, and eat plenty of fish. Just see what happens!

It may be rotton genetic luck, or you may be prematurely panicking. I very much doubt your uncle's story, unless he had radiation therapy or was anorexic. Even then, if he survived his hair would most likely have come back. He apparently told this story because he felt responsible for his hair loss, and wanted to remove responsibility as far from himself as possible.
First thing, I would see a dermatologist. Dr. Derm may tell you that you have no disease, but only DNA that predisposes you to hair loss but is also accompanied with excessive charm and sensitivity which makes you especially attracctive to desirable persons of both sexes. I hope Dr. Derm told you that you should be kind to all those who seek your company even though you must say no to some.
Dr. Derm may also Rx Monoxidil, Propecia and a multi vitimin, amd remind you to eat lots of veg.and fruit of all colors -- yelloy, green, red, and puce.
Dr. D. may also advise you to vote democratic for sustainable growth which will enable your grandchildren to have hair at all.
If, however, the problem turns out to be DNA, and all the medical and nutritiional supplements did not help, just enjoy all the admirers you have because of your charm and kindness. Ask your barber how to maximize your hair. Tell him or her to help you with a comb over, or a curly perm to enable you to retain some length. You may discover that having the nicest moustache, or moustache and beard may give you as much satisfaction as hair, and with minimal hair they make a stronger impression.
Also consider the possibility of a formal toupee of good quality, and a fun long wig: afro or brades can give you a creative lift.
Have fun. Don't count yourself less. Play with other people's hair. They usually like it.

Male pattern baldness is common in men, but manifestation is rare in someone your age.
A trip to the family doc or dermatologist is in order. Although rare, there are conditions other than normal male pattern baldness that can cause hairloss. You should check it out.
Assuming male pattern baldness (androgenetic alopecia) is the cause, there are treatments such as minoxidil or propecia. They should work very well in someone your age. A cure for baldness is probable in the next decade or so. A new drug, dutasteride (Avolve) is supposed to be excellent for treating hair loss. It should be approved by the FDA in the next year or so (it is actually designed for benign prostate hyperplasia, or enlarged prostate, but it can be prescribed by any doc for something such as hairloss).
OTOH, you may just have naturally fine hair. This may not change as you grow older.
