Some ?'s about undercuts

I've had the idea of getting a very small undercut once my hair is long enough to tie back but I don't know if it's a good idea or not. Basically I want something from half an inch to 1 inch but no more than that by any means. I've seen some people that only have it in the back and others that have it all around the edge, is there any pros/cons to either one? What type of hair best suits an undercut? I have very very wavy, "big" hair, is this hair good or bad for an undercut? And what's the point of an undercut, I hear it makes hair neater even when not tied back, is this the only reason to get one other than looks? Last question, does anyone have some pics of small undercuts from different angles so if I do get it done in the future I can have something to print out and show the barber/hair stylist? Thanks

OK, this is my opinion only, but I have thick wavy curly hair and I
have an undercut that goes about 1" above my ears and then slopes down
behind my ears and then crosses under my ponytail about 1" above the
hairline. This gets rid of all the short curly frizzy hair that never
grows really long anyway and just leaves the good long hair. I think
it looks much neater (and maybe even cool) plus my field of work is
conservative so it makes me look nice and cleancut :) if a ponytail
passes as cleancut! lol Besides which I rarely dress cleancut.
Also if you want to wear your hair down it will hang better if you
have thick hair. Hope this answers some of your questions. cheers
