Cutting Off Some Back

I had encountered a photo taken in Christmas of 2000 a few days ago and saw the way I was in the awkward stage during my first incomplete hair-growing attempt. I decided I looked better than I do now and thought, "The awkward stage wasn't so bad". Therefore, I resolved to keep it growing without anymore trims.
As you see, the picture of me in my awkward stage (in the link below), my bangs were the same length as my bangs now (shown in the pictures above). The thing that sucks is that if I hadn't gotten 2 trims on THIS attempt, my hair would've been even longer than it was in the Christmas 2000 pic. Now, I still have a stupid "short hair" look!
However, my mind began to wonder yet again. My mom told me that my back looked disproportionately long compared to the front. I kind of agree and think it would look better if I just trimmed the back. By the time my hair grows long enough to cover my ears (the way Ashton Kutcher is sometimes), I'd quit trimming the back. I think this'd be a nice style during my awkward stage.
On the other hand, I'm scared of trims now. I won't like the way I look until my hair is long. Is trimming only the back too risky? Do you think it'll look OK if I just wait it out some more?
As for now, I'll keep on growing. I've decided that if I'm ever thinking about changing my hair, I won't cut it unless I'm 100% positive. A month back, I was thinking of buzzing it, but I wasn't sure. I kept it growing, and now, I'm glad I kept it.

I regularly get the back of my hair trimmed, and I think it helps tremendously in keeping my hair more even-looking. I'd say go for it. And like you said, once the rest of your hair catches up to the level of the back, you can stop trimming and just grow on out.

I agree, the back does look better if it's trimmed. I think it's fine a little longer in the back, but if it's longer than the shoulders in back, and much shorter throughout the rest, a small trim is in order. Not much, just 1/2 to 1 inch at most.

People are over reacting. I've always had the back trimmed since I started growing my hair out and it's never caused a single problem.

Hey yeah, trimming at the back is good.
I just got my first trim 3 days ago after growing it for 5 months, and I'm happy with the result. I also got it layered slightly to make it look thinner. But yeah, it's completely up to you and how you feel about it - the most important thing is to let it grow, but a trim now and again makes it easier to manage it.
I got an inch taken off at the back, and my hair looks much more even now, with the sides almost being the same length.
Hope this has helped.

I think you've already answered this for yourself. Just stop the trimming, and be prepared to go through these stage of many months waiting for your hair to become long. Of course the back of your hair looks disproportionately longer than the front. That's part of what makes it the awkward stage. You simply wait. Resist the urge to keep trimming it, and when these months pass, you will wonder why you ever worried.

No,,,your hair isn't that long yet, wait at least 6 more months before you do that. You are now just past short not at all ready for a trim.
once your hair on the sides can touch your shoulders then even things up....DON'T CUT IT DUDE

You look much better on the "above" picture. Its odd, because you are very similar to me. I once had a growing hair attempt, and I decided to trim the top and not the back. It looked quite strange... But after that, I was so stupid, that I convinced myself to totally shave my head to the skin. Then 3 days later, I regretted it a lot! Two months have passed and now my hair started to grow again, but this time, I won't trim it at all! By the way, continue to let your hair grow dude, and you should tell me to let my hair grow too. Mutual encouragement can make the difference!
