Parting Your Hair, Strange Question lol

is there a certain length that you would have to wait till to part your hair?, i'm at 7 months now but i've kept my awkward stage hair held back tight with Gel (that's the only way i can), basically what i'm asking is when do you think it gets long enough to just let it flow free?
if i don't use anything my hair just seems to fall in my eyes, does hairspray damage hair more than gel?

im at 9 months (w/thick wavy hair) I started from a buzz cut and I just realized that I don't even know how or when it started to part. I've just always had it parted in the middle since I started as far as I can remember and I've never used gel or anything. So at 7 months I'd say it should part already.

If parting means separating the hair with a line at the top of the scalp, I started doing it as soon as I was a two-monther. I did it even if my hair was not long enough to make a noticeable effect. I guess I wanted to accustumate my hair to this style early.
