USPS Longhair

I have a friend who has worked as a window clerk for the U.S. Postal Service at various locations in the east. He has been required to keep his hair very short (above the collar) and is also required to remove his earring for work. I has assumed that there is a standard dress code for all USPS window clerks nationwide. However, while visiting a post office somewhere north of downtown Phoenix some months ago, I noticed a window clerk with a variety of facial piercings and a thick, black mane of waist length hair. Management must not have had any problems with his mane, as no attempt had been made to hide it. In fact, it was worn free and was flying everywhere. Needless to say, the guy was working his a** off. It is too bad that more employers cannot judge people for the work they do rather than their appearance. Hats off to the Phoenix Postmaster!

I am in the northeast and we have a window clerk with longhair.
So now this makes me wonder whether or not this IS a 'nationalpolicy.'

It must be a local policy. There is a filipeno USPS delivery guy who comes to my building in San Diego and he wears his raven hair in a foot long braid. And a window clerk in our local branch has waist length hair and beard to match.
