i'm really fed up with my hair

I thought as the months go by it is supposed to get better? It seems to be the opposite (at almost 10 months) I have really bad looking hair. It's very wavy, somewhat curly, very thick, BIG, quite frizzy, feels greasy... it's horrible! I don't have straight hair, I don't have neat looking wavy hair, and I don't have 100% curly hair (where it pretty much grows as an afro) I wouldn't mind an afro since at least it's a hairstyle but I look like some bum that hasnt combed his hair in ages, it Just gets huge around the sides/back, very curly on the back, and the top is wavy but not neat looking waves, very frizzy but it feels greasy! I'm not going to cut it, I just can't but I still hate it. Has anyone had hair like this?

What do you do with your hair as far as shampooing, conditioning, and styling? What you do for those things can make a big difference. My hair gets very frizzy, and I find that hair straightening balm, then drying it while pulling it straight with a brush and blow dryer make a big difference.

I shampoo/condition every 3-4 days w/Aussie Mango Smoothy shampoo and Slip Detangler. The days after shampooing/conditioning I use the Infusium leave in conditioner. Oh and I sleep with a hat on if that counts. That's it, I don't really like putting gunk in my hair b/c although it makes it look "nice" I don't like the look or feel.

It helps since you put a picture up. What I do is get my hair thinned out. I recommend going to whoever cuts your hair and having them thin your hair down with thinning shears. This is what I do. Also, you may want to have them cut your hair into longer layers with a razor which will help your hair lay down. I recommend shampooing 2 to 3 times a week and using a leave in conditioner that works against frizz, etc. For thick hair, summer is awful because of the humidity. The main goal is to keep your hair thinned. I know that my hair looks kind of bushy and bad in the summer form the humidity but it seems to straighten out and lay down more in the fall into winter. As I said, getting it thinned out is the secret.

Eventually your hair will lay down when it gets long enough but if you do want it to lay flatter you can always get an undercut.

Guess it looks good with air dry rather than blow dry!
And this is with a blowdry

hi,
it *does* get better...give it time....
i'm at around 9 months since last cut (2" or so),
it's also very thick/wavy, and i have *very* high humidity (around 90%) and *hard* water....
and mine is just starting to calm down (only looks bad every couple days, instead of every day :)
which is kinda interesting... since i don't put anything on it, and i work in retail meeting the public all the time.... ;)
don't worry too much about it... :) it'll be *awesome* in a year or so!

Ever think about using a flat iron? I use one all the time now, and I can tell you that it makes my hair look great. Otherwise, my hair would be really wavy and unruly. I usually flat iron my hair once every 2 or 3 days and don't do anything at all to it during the days in between. On the 2nd or 3rd day, I'll wash and then take the iron to it again. The effects even last through sleeping, even without a hat or anything of that sort. So if you want to try it out, I would highly recommend it.

Keep in mind that no matter how bad your hair is while it's growing it's 1) better than short hair with gelled ocean-spray bangs 2) being bald and 3) Meg Ryan in that issue of Reader's Digest. And one day you'll have long beautiful hair that will bring more joy than trouble especially when a couple times a month a young lady asks to run her fingers through it.
