How is this possible?!?!?!?

I've been growing for 10 months from a buzz cut and have always had black hair. Now, before I grew my hair out I put some highlights in and used some of that "sun in" stuff on it to lighten it, which it did to a brown/gold color. So then I buzzed it and started growing it out. Now I am noticing that there's alot of hairs that are growing in brown, especially when I look at it in very bright light, but how is this possible? I thought dying/highlighting your hair was non-permanent and there is no way it could go under the root and affect later hair growth. It's not a big deal, you can only notice it if you look very closely, and frankly I would be very happy w/something other than black hair but why is this happening? Any other possible reasons?

Maybe you just never noticed the brown hairs when your hair was so short? Could also be that your longer hair has had more sun exposure, that will definitely lighten hair.

When I had buzzcut (approx 8yrs), I thought it was black too. It was really black the last time I had it long. As it started growing out this time, there were and still are some brown/red tinted hair in it. I guess it is the unavoidable physiological change. My wife tells me that very few people actually have that natural blue/black color that is so desireable among people that have black hair.

Hey, my hair is weird too!
Till I was eight, I had blond curly hair. Now my natural color is brown!! When my hair is wet or I have put gel in it, it is pitch black. I have colored my hair reddish (bleeched it), and tough this happens too! :)

know what you mean, my hair used to be REALLY Blonde
then it got brown, now since i've been growing it out it seems like its turning blonde again , makes no sense
i have been out in the sun alot this summer so that could be causing it, anyone know if it will darken in the winter or it the blonde parts will stay blonde?
