Help!

Ok, here's my problem;
My hair is semi long, pulled straight it comes down to the bottom of my chin, it is also curly. I used to just leave it hanging, the curls would keep it out of my eyes and I didn't really care what other people thought of it. However, at the front my hair has straightened out somewhat and now, unless I brush it too the side, it covers my eyes. Recently I have tried styling my hair, which is something I have never done before, I've always just let it do what it wants.. I started with a parting it in the middle and brushing the front behind my ears, I also tried having it in curtains. My problem is at the back my Hair is out of control, it literally looks like a bush, brushing it when dry just makes it fluffy and even when wet I can't control it. Has anyone got any tips on styling my hair taking into account the curls? What I really want is styles I can wear my hair in and how to achieve them.
ohhh on a side note I found a picture searching this very board which pretty much shows what my hair looks like wet, just imagine the guy in the picture with hair down to his chin

Yeah!!! Billy had awesome hair. And I'd say his hair was at least chin length in that picture. Is that what your hair is like? But I don't have any styling tips for you. When I used to try to style my hair when it was long it turned out almost as crappy as if I had done nothing, plus I hate the junk in my hair. But have you tried not washing as often, and NOT brushing?

Nah, my hair doesn't look quite like that. It only reaches the bottom of my chin if I pull it straight down, I'm pretty sure that if billys hair was pulled straight down it would go past his chin and down to middle chest.
Help! ok...

...brushing your kind of hair in back is just about the worst thing
you can do.
If you put gel in your damp hair, this is what I suggest:
...while still damp, fix your hair the way you want it...that is
"set" it. Then let it dry that way.
Next...LEAVE IT ALONE as much as possible...
Touching it...playing with it...adjusting it...or worse, brushing it...
...will make it look like your explained...all bushy and miserable.
Good Luck!
