Men&Womens hair

Have men more troubles to grow hair out than women? I am wondering about this. Men seem to have problems to grow their hair out and seem to have trouble to get it really long and for women it seems to be no problem to grow hair out when they had it short. Is it that men have "less quality" hair? Or where is the differnce?
Women take long hair for granted (I never had short hair) but for men it is still something special. I also do not any special treatment to my hair, it looks always good. Oh, well I just didn't saw a lot of men with long hair to compare LOL

I dont think there is a difference between men and women's hair. Women might have an easier time growing it out because they can use things to hold it in place or style it in ways that arent usually socially acceptable for guys. I have noticed that guys seem to take better care of their hair and not bleach it / use perms, but when you think about it girls have split ends and damage too. Its just most guys dont want their hair to poof or flip out so they call it awkward.

Angela, you are so lucky. I can't get my hair to grow worth shit. I definitely don't take it for granted and would give my right arm for longer hair. I see your point, though.

Julie, I am so sorry you are not getting your hair longer. I always say, just let it grow and do nothing. Some are just not getting over the "awkward phase" and lose patience. But I figured there are some hair types where it is difficult to get it long. Why don't you get your hair longer?

I wish I knew. It just won't grow (microscopically, maybe). I had it evened out sometime in early May and it hasn't budged since. (I can tell when I try to reach around and grab it.) I've been under a great deal of stress, so maybe that has something to do with it. It was falling out by the handful, but it stopped doing that, at least. I desperately need to start exercising because I'm sure improved blood circulation would help it some. Thanks for your concern.

Most women grow their hair out when they are very young and their hair is very thin, this allows them to skip the whole poofyness dilema. Not only this, but as young children they dont care too much about asthetics whereas I care greatly and im sure that it occasionally gets to the point where i start imagining things. Also, women with longhair are better accepted, no matter what state their hair is in, most men, on the other hand, have short hair and if they grow their hair out it has to be amazingly healthy and stylish for it to be generally accepted and thats alot of pressure! Lastly, women get regular trims and have a wide variety of hairstyles to choose from when they are growing it out from short later in their life, they can always mold their hair to some sort of in-hairstyle, men dont have this option as there are few long cuts that we can sport that are acceptable or not feminine

It's not harder for men but it is harder for women trying to grow really long hair as they are experts at wrecking their hair due to the the imagined expectations of beauty that demand this. I hear women say all they time that they can't get it to grow very long anymore or past a certain length.
You might come to the conclusion that it's harder for men by reading the posts here from some of the shorthairs who long to be longhairs but once it gets long then there is little reason to complain anymore.
As I look around day to day I see very few women with really long hair. Most have styles just past the men's difficult stage or shorter and they just maintain it at those lengths...not too hard to do.

: I think there is another reason why women find it easier to grow their hair, and that is that they have ON AVERAGE faster growing hair with a longer terminal length. True, you will get some men whose hair grows faster than the six inches a year qhici is quoted as the average, but very few whose hair grows faster than that, and lots whose hair grows less than 6 inches a year. For women, however, very few have less than six inches a year, and a greater number have hair which grows faster than six inches a year.
Certainly my wife's hair and that of my closest female friend both grow at least 10 to 12 inches a year, but I do not know any men whose hair grows that fast. Mine certainly doesn't - I wish it did!

I think genetics has more to do with the ability to grow hair than gender. My hair is over 3 feet long and shows no signs of stopping whereas my girlfriend's hair reached terminal length at the bottom of her shoulder blades. Its all in the genes.
