Being a Longhair
Being a longhair is so much fun,
Whether in the rain or under the sun.
I am glad to let it grow and grow,
Just takes so damn long, you know?
A few months ago when I started to post here
I had some concerns all wrapped up in fear:
Will others still see me for who I am?
How will I feel? Will I give a damn?
My fears were slowly laid to rest
After hearing some posts, both serious and jest.
The post, however, that sticks out in my mind
Stated, "It's how you carry yourself"; how divine!
So I decided to grow, no matter what others feel.
It's who I am...my identity, and I think there's appeal.
I like having some different options, too;
To wear it up or down, and trying somethings new.
No, to grow is not for the faint of heart,
For growing takes courage and persistence, to start.
There will be times to face when you'll want to cut it all!
But that's when you need to say, "Hell no!" and stand up tall!
Yes, you'll have challenges and obstacles to overcome,
Like name-calling and misperceptions, just to name some.
Don't worry, though, there are ways around that Hell,
Like responding with humor, which I find works well!
Yes, I know, sometimes it is a pain in the rump:
Slow hair growth, hair tangles and those awful hair clumps.
And let's not forget that no matter what your age,
Most of us get hit with that infernal "awkward stage"!
Ahh yes, the awkward stage, it's not fun at all...what a fuss.
But there are sprays, gels, hats and BEST of all...us!
For one day that hair grow and fall as a mane
And you'll think, "I wanted to cut! How insane!"
What should I take out of this poem today?
I can think of a thing or two to say:
If your doubting your growth or shunning with fear,
Remember, what makes you happiest is the way to steer.
After all, you only have ONE life to live
Shouldn't you give yourself all you can give?
Well, I really enjoyed this, I had a ball
Talking to you about long hair and all.
For I thought I'd share these words with you
And make you smile in the process too.
