Alcohol in conditioners?

I was just reading the ingredients in Aussie conditioners. They contain Cetearyl Alcohol. What's up with that?

Cetearyl alcohol:
Also known as cetostearyl alcohol. This mixture is primarily used in ointments as an emulsifier and is very widely used in cleansing lotions and other skin preparations. This is quite a safe ingredient.
