Curly hair at the back?!?

Hello all,
I have been contemplating growing my hair out.
I am an asian guy with thick straight hair and have been growing it for about 3 months. Please note...here in the UK, asians are people from India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, etc. I understand asian means something different in America... so I'm asian in the UK sense. It's about 3.5 inches long on top and about 2.5 on the back and sides. I'm finding that at the back (at the bottom of the back) my hair curls upwards towards the sky as soon as it dries after washing it. When will it get straight again and point downwards and actually touch the back of my neck? Is there any way to straighten it? What if I got it trimmed there?
I may decide not to have long hair in the traditional way and may settle for a longer hair style. Is that what I'll end up with if I just trim the bottom of the back? Is it called a mop style?
Any help greatly appreciated.
Cheers,
mithila_man

Welcome, friend, to the world of long hair. The best thing you can do with the hair in the back is to just let it grow and after it gets so long its own weight will streighten it out for the most part. In the mean time, you can take a brush and and roll it inward to curl the hair in back back under. About the Asian thing you mentioned, I hope that all the peace loving longhaired guys on this board aren't so shallow as to be prejudiced to any nation in general. Peace!!!!

Hey Im from the UK too. Whereabouts you live, i live in KEnt. Im not Asian but i have the curly hair in the back thing, i've had a few trims and kept the hair at the back relatively short compared to the front (which now reachs past my bottom lip). I dunno if it will straighten out over time but people say that it looks pretty good especially on people like Brandon Boyd from Incubus, who has pretty much the same kind of hair as me.

Here in the US where I live we are specific to the country of origin, just don't call people "Asian" That's like calling someone European, not specific enough. If someone is from India, we call them Indian, from Malaysia, Malaysian, from Vietnam, Vietnamese, from China, Chinese. Unless you are ashamed of your country of origin, why don't you just say that. Or South Asian.
The curling of your hair, some people's hair will begin to curl all over after reaching a certain length. Also try drying the hair with a hand dryer on cool setting and brush the hair down from underneath, that works for me. Good luck.
